Packing light is a hard thing for women to master, especially getting it down to packing efficiently. The smartest thing is to have a checklist prior to leaving on a trip, that way you aren’t leaving anything out and it prevents you from spending last minute money at the airport.
The best thing is to carry-on at all times, but that seems to be a difficult task for women, especially because we have so many products that have to fit under the 3 oz. TSA requirement. A very important part of traveling is having appropriate luggage that can resist ripping after being tossed around. I recommend Tumi bags, because they are multi-purpose bags that are durable and reliable.
