We’re continuing our spring coats series today by sharing five fabulous options for trendsetters. Are you ready?
First, let’s cover what we’re considering a trendsetting coat. Does it speak to one of spring’s hottest runway trends? Will it immediately stand out in a crowd, for all the right reasons? Will it work with several different looks, despite its stand-out quality? We made sure our picks fit all three criteria! Now, on to our top five trendsetting spring coat picks…
It’s color-blocked. It’s leather. It’s color-blocked leather! This coat fits in two trends, but still manages to be completely versatile thanks to its neutral color palette and sleek collarless silhouette.

Funky floral prints were a big trend on the Spring 2014 runways, but it’s often hard to work a floral print in outerwear without giving off a super feminine vibe. This light cotton sateen jacket sidesteps that situation with an asymmetrical moto jacket construction. Plus, the price is just right for such an of-the-moment trend.
→ Buy the Gap Floral Moto Jacket, $118.00, at gap.com.
Animal prints are always a sure sign of a fashionista in the know. This zebra print topper gets bonus points for a look that will pair just as well with jeans and a tee as it will your wear to work best. It has a 4.7 out of 5 customer rating with 70 reviews… that many happy owners can’t be wrong.
→ Buy the Ann Taylor Zebra Jacquard Topper, $179.99 (was $198.00), at anntaylor.com.
This Burberry trench is an amazingly subtle take on the metallic trend. Looks like a classic Burberry trench, right? Click through and check out a super close up – the pale beige fabric is woven with a thin metallic gold thread throughout. Add in the shiny gold metal buttons and metallic leather epaulettes and you’ve got a super stunning coat option.
→ Buy the Burberry Mid-Length Metallic Trench, $1,695.00, at us.burberry.com.
I saw this coat up close and in person last weekend and can assure you the photos do not do it justice. This cotton blend lightweight coat is woven with a vaguely tribal pattern that fits perfectly with the art-print trend from the Spring runway. It reminds me a bit of the way Henri Rousseau painted layered jungle leaves. So gorgeous.
→ Buy the Zara Crewneck Coat, $139.00, at zara.com.
