Girl Talk: Getting Glossy Glossy Lips

Wednesday, October 24, 2007

It's no secret that I adore the Stiletto Jungle Girl Talk panel. These seven fabulous women take time out each and every week to spill their best fashion and beauty secrets, road test the hottest new products, and generally guide Stiletto Jungle in the right direction. No matter how busy life gets, these ladies always come through with a great Girl Talk article each and every Wednesday.

But, sometimes life gets to be a bit much, even for our indestructible Girl Talk panel. Last week, as we were planning this today's article on lip glosses, we had no idea what this week would have in store. Our Girl Talk panel has been hard hit by the southern California fire storm, with some of our panelists being subject to mandatory evacuations and others hosting friends and family who have been evacuated. It speaks highly of the commitment of our panel that we even have a column for you this week. Much love goes out to all of our panelists as they brave the fires.

Now, brave ladies, what say you about the topic of the week. How do you get your glossy glossy lips on?

"I have fallen into the trap of lip gloss monogamy," explains Jennifer, a 31-year-old nurse from Long Beach, California. "Ever since junior high I have been hooked on Wet-n-Wild lip gloss. It's cheap and, although you must re-apply throughout the day, it's shiny and leaves my lips soft and adds a touch of color. I have several different shades and my husband loves the smell. He calls it 'stripper gloss.' Why? I have no idea."

Um, I think the whole "stripper gloss" reference is a good thing Jennifer. I don't think I would mind having luscious, glossy, sexy lips... especially if it's cheap! I'm a total lip gloss addict, but I know gloss isn't for everyone.

"I rarely wear lip gloss, and it's not because I haven't given it a chance," says Po, a 28-year-old attorney. "To me, it is just too sticky and gooey on my lips. I feel like the shine makes me look greasy, and I just can't relax when I wear it. Maybe one day, I will try it again. For now, I am fine with regular chapstick and lipstick."

"Well everyone who knows me, knows that I am the queen of crazy glossy hot pink/ red lips," starts Kim, a 23-year-old San Diego native. "I love to wear bright colors, and with bright lipstick you need an excellent gloss to shine and bring out the sexy in you. My favorite lip gloss at the moment is Lorac lip gloss. It has a smooth texture and I love all their shades of pink. My ultimate favorite is Lorac Mocktail lip gloss in Maui Mai Tai.

I happen to have two different lip glosses from Lorac, the Mocktail and the Lotsa Lip Gloss Plumping Lip Gloss. They are both great. The difference is that the volumizing one comes on thicker. I wear these during the day and night, [although] sometimes during the day I wear them without lipstick underneath to make it look less sexy. I prefer to look vamp all the time with these amazingly shiny pink glosses. They do last a long time if you wear them over lipstick, but otherwise plan on reapplying a few times during the day. Reapplying never bothers me-- there something uplifting about reapplying a shiny, moist gloss on your lips. It's instant confidence!"
