When it comes to hair removal, there are plenty of options. Shaving, waxing, lasers, sugaring, electrolysis, depilatory machines, chemical depilatories. Seriously. It's not that hard. Do we really need all of these options?
Evidently so. I'll admit it, I'm a sucker for a potential quick fix just as much as the next woman. So, when Veet offered to let me test drive their new, much-hyped Rasera "bladeless shaving" system I went for it. First of all, let's throw away the euphemisms: "bladeless shaving" is really just another way to say chemical depilatory with a twist. But, would this new system be an improvement on the sticky, smelly depilatories of old?
The system goes a little like this: apply thick, foamy cream; wait 3-6 minutes; "shave" foam (and hair) off with bladeless razor. The thick foam is much less messy than the old fashioned lotions and the initial scent was not unpleasant at all, but as time wore on the smell began to remind me of the perms I had as a pre-teen. At 4 minutes I tested a small patch and the hair came off quite easily. I stood in the shower while shaving off the remaining foam, a process that did get a bit messy. Although the test patch came off easily, after removing all of the foam I realized that there were several patches of hair remaining. Unlike traditional shaving, you can't just go back over a hairy patch. What a pain. The parts of my leg that did end up hair-free were super soft-- much more so than with traditional shaving-- but, I couldn't muster the energy to fix the hairy patches. Good thing I wasn't going anywhere.
The verdict? The new Veet Hair Removal System is much easier to use than the chemical depilatories I tried out as a teen, but it's still not my cup of tea. Although traditional shaving is imperfect, I like the immediacy, ease of use, and complete lack of funky smell. Are you already a fan of chemical depilatories? I think you'll enjoy this new, re-imagined take on the old concept. Click on the photo to link directly to where you can purchase the new Veet "Rasera" Hair Removal System online.
