There are so many bandwagons to jump on these days in the name of charity and it's amazing that so many causes are getting big attention due to cool products that donate a percentage toward a cause or a celebrity's endorsement. This month is Breast Cancer Awareness Month -- this one seems to be the mother of all causes to support in terms of products and donations.
The pink ribbon was actually created by Evelyn Lauder (yes the name is familiar... you got it, Estee Lauder) along with Self Magazine editor Alexandra Penny in 1992. Lauder, a breast cancer survivor herself, has gone on to create the company most committed to defeating breast cancer in all of fashion or beauty. She has done well with the symbol of the pink ribbon -- I'm not sure there are too many people out there who haven't at least heard of it! The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, which was founded by Lauder in '93, just after the ribbon, raised over 30 million bucks to give to researchers helping to find a cure to this horrible disease.
