What's fall without layers of cashmere? And, when it comes to cashmere with a modern twist, it's hard to beat Vince. Sure, Loro Piana may be more luxurious, and J.Crew more classic (and apt to go on sale), but Vince makes cashmere relevant and fresh season after season. I can't resist.

This new Vince Checkerboard Cashmere Sweater is clearly one of the standouts from the Holiday 2010 Vince line. This heather gray sweater features a combination of textures and style elements that could have gone horribly wrong: a bateau neck and dolman sleeves, plus patches of cross-directional ribbing and an side-split hem. But, the final result is perfectly slouchy, but still body-conscious and interesting. There's no way anyone would compare the Vince slouchy silhouette to a garbage sack, as is often the case when designers try to go slouchy. Bottom line: the look is modern, the cashmere is super soft, and the price is right.
