Review: Burberry Body Fragrance

I'm always intrigued when iconic brands come out with new fragrances. It must be a tough job to be the person charged with coming up with the new scent. How do you embody an already well-known look and feel in a perfume? The latest fragrance from Burberry – Burberry Body – brings to mind these questions. The refined, yet relaxed luxury of a timeless Burberry trench is such a distinct feel, I wondered how this new scent might stack up against the Burberry "feeling" that's already ingrained in my memory.

Truthfully, it does a pretty great job. I got a chance to try the new Burberry Body scent last week. When I first applied the scent, I found it to be a little powdery and soft for my taste. But, it didn't take long for the fragrance to transform into a very likeable scent. The lingering fragrance is warm and rich, but not overpowering, with a slight hint of vanilla. It has some floral notes, but definitely doesn't register to me as a true floral scent, and comes across very clean. It's not one of those rich scents that starts to give you a headache after a while – it wears well without coming on too strong.

On the whole, this fragrance made me feel warm and relaxed. It conveyed the subtle, casual luxury I've come to expect from the Burberry label. It's definitely a great special occasion fragrance. The warmth is perfect for a night out or a holiday party. But, it's also one of those scents that is comforting for the cooler winter months. It makes me want to curl up in yards of cashmere, right in front of a roaring fire. I think it would be an ideal holiday gift, or new scent for making the holiday party rounds.
