--Guest Post By The Watch Hut
You wouldn’t believe it if you had seen the Wimbledon Tennis Finals, but England is not generally a warm country. Geographically, we are north of Manitoba, so how do we cope with the occasional 86 degree heat in our non-air conditioned offices here at The Watch Hut?
The best way to deal with heat is preparation. Keeping a little supply of goodies in your desk drawer will make things that little bit easier when the heat hits home.
Stain Removal Pen
When it’s really warm outside, you don’t want to be wearing additional clothes. So what happens when you go out for lunch and spill something on to your top?
Normally, you would throw on a sweater, but do you really want to be doing that in the heat? What you really need is stain remover. One of the most convenient forms for work is the stain removal pen (something like Tide to Go). Apply as needed, zap that stain and avoid a sweaty afternoon.
→ Buy the Tide To Go 3-Pack, $13.28, at amazon.com.
Water Bottle
Bottled water is an environmental disaster. All those plastic bottles need recycling (or end up in landfill). But, staying hydrated is a must.
Luckily, in most offices, there is at the very least a filtered water system. It’s virtually indistinguishable from the expensive stuff shipped from France anyway, so why not keep a water bottle handy and top up regularly.
Not drinking will cause you to dehydrate and in the worst case scenario it will lead to heat exhaustion, so keep drinking the water.
→ Buy the Bkr Bottle Glass Water Bottle in Silicone Sleeve, $28.00, at amazon.com.
Deodorant
Hot weather makes people sweat and sweat doesn’t smell good. To counter this most people keep a deodorant or anti-perspiriant in the desk. Are you sure your supply is ok? Check now, because when the hot weather starts this is one of the best defences against body odour.
→ Buy the Secret Clinical Strength Deodorant 2-pack, $12.94, at amazon.com.
Berocca
Hot weather = sleepless nights. One way to keep yourself feeling better is to make sure your vitamin levels are up to par. One popular way to do this in the UK is Berrocca with Guarana. The natural caffeine-like stimulant wakes you up, whilst the mixture of vitamins and minerals is formulated to sharpen your reflexes.
→ Buy the Berocca Effervescent Tablets 3-pack, $27.60, at amazon.com.
Eye Drops
If you are live in London, you probably travel on “The Tube” underground rail network everyday. For those not familiar with it, the gush of air as the train emerges in to platforms often whips up dust particles. Whilst this happens every day, it seems to irritate even more in summer time.
For those of us who live in other cities, like us guys at The Watch Hut HQ, just outside Birmingham, then car air conditioning takes a similar toll on our faces.
Keep those eye drops handy to keep looking fresh and more importantly feeling comfortable.
→ Buy the Rohto Lubricant and Redness Relieving Eye Drops 3-pack, $17.37, at amazon.com.
Sun Cream
Sunburn hurts. Even short walks in hot sun can burn you. Stay in the shade and invest in a little sun cream. Your skin will thank you and what’s more you’ll help yourself avoid aging skin, or even worse, skin cancer.
→ Buy the La Roche-Posay Anthelios 45 Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid with SPF 45, $24.35 - $31.39, at amazon.com.
Hand Held Fan
If you are unlucky enough not to have a large fan available, then you need some alternative personal workplace cooling. Available from most chemists and pound stores (think dollar store) a hand-held fan is great for lessening the effects of the heat.
→ Buy the Coleman Cool Zephyr Mini Fan, $6.99, at amazon.com.
Watch
I couldn’t get away without recommending watches, but they do serve two functions in hot weather. Firstly, they let you jazz up an outfit without adding extra layers, but more importantly they let you know when it’s time to leave work and go out and enjoy the summertime.
→ Buy the Karl Lagerfeld Ladies 7 Watch, $330.22, at thewatchhut.co.uk.
Until next time, stay cool
