Loving This Week: Quilted Leather Sneakers + a New Hair Line
Monday, June 09, 2014
This week I found a new-ish casual clothing line via Twitter, and I had a new hair care line introduced to me. Plus, I’m slowly finding pieces to recreate a favorite Pinterest look, and I stumbled across a fabulous new pair of jeans completely by accident. It’s been a crazy shopping week, for sure. Here’s a peek inside my online shopping cart for this week…
1. Lou & Grey Granite Stripe Maxi Dress, $59.50
I wish I could remember where I heard about Lou & Grey so that I could give proper credit. It was somewhere on Twitter, of that I’m sure. Regardless, it was a great find. Lou & Grey is a loungewear line from Loft (you know, the line formerly known mainly as an offshoot of Ann Taylor). It’s a confusing provenance, but a very cool line of slouchy separates in muted colors, all perfect for mixing and matching.
This maxi dress, with its easygoing style and sporty halter top, is an immediate favorite. It’s just the kind of dress you want to wear on the hottest days of summer. I love that it’s a sleek black and white stripe, but it still feels airy. The rest of the line is just as fun (and affordable).
2. R+Co. Park Ave Blow Out Balm, $28.00
This weekend, during my regularly scheduled highlights, my amazing stylist was “auditioning” this new hair care line called R+Co. I hadn’t heard of it yet, but just the fact that she was giving it a try for possible inclusion at the salon spoke volumes – this salon currently uses Oribe, Kerastase, and Bumble and bumble. That’s it. A new line would have to be pretty serious to be considered for inclusion in that short and storied list.
I later looked up the new line and found out that it is brand new and sprung from a partnership between hairstyle heavyweights Garren, Thom Priano, and Howard McLaren. You can read more about the line’s amazing creation story on Refinery29. It’s worth the read.
This blow out balm smells like heaven – a unisex scent that’s herbal and slightly sweet – and works just as well as my usual Kerastase blow out balm (but at half the price).
3. R+Co. Dallas Thickening Spray, $28.00
My stylist spritzed this thickening spray on my roots after applying the blow out balm above, just before drying. It gave a good amount of volume to my mid-back length hair, but wasn’t sticky or crunchy. And, like the balm, it smelled amazing.
4. Steve Madden Ecentrcq Sneaker, $59.95
Now about that Pinterest look… I’ve been working on recreating a “me” version of this Pinterest pin for a couple months. Yes, I realize it’s a cool weather look and it is currently practically summer. But, I live the Bay Area, where summer never really kicks in, and the look itself is pretty timeless.
I picked up those sale price Lafayette 148 skinny black wool pants I wrote about last week, and today I found a chunky Vince cashmere/ wool blend turtleneck on clearance at Neiman Marcus. I just need the shoes, and I’m not throwing down for the real deal Celine version. I don’t have that much faith in the longevity of this sneaker trend.
These faux leather Steve Madden sneaks have the exact same look as the pricey Celine version (go figure), but at a tiny fraction of the cost. I’m sold.
5. Current/Elliott The Fling Jeans in Loved Wash, $208.00
I hate to rub a crazy sale find in your faces, but I just bought these jeans – albeit in a different wash – on clearance at Neiman Marcus for $62.30. I tried my best to find a similar sale online to share with all of you, but it seems like all that’s left online are the newer washes. The fit it so fabulous that I still had to share these jeans. I think they are worth the full price. If you are in the market for a slim-fitting, yet still slightly slouchy, boyfriend jean, give these a try.
