5 Surprising Minimalist Finds from Gap

Tuesday, July 29, 2014

I have a love/ hate relationship with Gap. Both the quality and style have fluctuated a lot over the years, and recently they flat stopped making non-denim pants in my size. I have some pent up bitterness. But, today I’ve put the hate on hold to focus on five surprisingly minimalist pieces that are tempting.

I was feeling kind of uninspired when I sat down to blog today, and somehow ended up over at Gap.com. While they were chock full of some pretty run-of-the-mill Gap merchandise, they also had a few pieces that stood out as something that would fit well in a chic, minimalist wardrobe. Color me surprised. Check them out…

This Oxford popover shirt is a great staple item and has some nice details, like a pleated detail neckline and curved shirttail hem that is longer in back. I’ve had great luck with Gap shirts being pretty much wash and go, so there’s that too. I’d pair this with slim, cropped black trousers.

Simple leather loafers feel so modern right now. This pair – believe it or not – has a genuine leather upper. That’s crazy at this price. They likely won’t last more than a season or two, but they will be a favorite while they do.

This drapey rayon-cotton twill woven shirt has a kind of Vince-esque look that will pair perfectly with skinny jeans.

I’m reluctant to feature a pair of Gap jeans since I haven’t tried them in a while, but this pair has a look I just can’t turn away from. They are a near spitting image of my favorite new pair of Current/Elliott jeans, which makes them a perfect foundation for pairing with slouchy tees (now) and chunky sweaters (later). Plus, picture them with those must-have See by Chloe boots

This boatneck top is one of those pieces that could change vibes depending on how you wear it. It could go super girly-girl feminine. But, it could also go cutting edge modern. I’m thinking it needs a just-below-the-knee stretchy black pencil skirt.
