Each season has a couple stand out trends that quickly trickle down from the runways to the store. This fall the most obvious runway-inspired trend is the oversized, slightly chunky turtleneck.
Considering how cozy and wearable this look is in real life, I’m fully embracing the trend. But, there are just so many options to choose from. Saks alone has over a dozen designer versions of the oversized turtleneck. A lady could get lost trying to find the just right sweater. So, in the interest of all of our sanities, I systematically waded through a range of online shopping destinations to find seven truly stand-out turtlenecks. Check them out…
I don’t know why I’m surprised by this, but this ultra-affordable Zara turtleneck might just be my favorite of the pack. I love the light biscuit color and the use of the purl stitch, which is uncommon among this season’s sweaters.

It’s hard to find fault with basic, black, and pure cashmere. This waffle-knit option from the Nordstrom house label has a classic appeal. Plus, that waffle weave adds a little extra visual interest.
→ Buy the Nordstrom Signature Waffle Knit Cashmere Turtleneck, $495.00, at nordstorm.com.
A shaker knit is easily the most expected formula for an oversized turtleneck. But, this Joie option gets a kick from the marled camel knit. I’m not in love with the crazy acrylic/ poly/ cotton/ nylon blend, but the price is fitting for the composition.

I can’t resist buying a new Helmut Lang sweater each fall. They have these crazy little details that just make the sweater. In this case, splits at the sides and sleeves, and contrast rib details.

Ahh, Acne. One of my favorite splurge labels. Few labels can make a turtleneck look truly edgy all on its own, but Acne pulls that off with aplomb.
→ Buy the Acne Studios Galactic Asymmetrical Draped Ribbed Sweater, $620.00, at saks.com.
A second fabulous, affordable Zara pick is up next. This sweater looks gorgeous from the front, but the back teardrop opening with thick knit tie closure makes it a must-buy. It’s also available in a sea blue color, but that version doesn’t come off nearly as high fashion as this mink brown shade.
→ Buy the Zara Jumper with Back Teardrop Opening, $79.90, at zara.com.
The best for last? If you are wanting to really splurge, consider this Alexander McQueen find. Everything about this sweater screams luxury: winter white color, wool/ cashmere blend composition, Italian provenance, zip-open hemline vents. Perfection.
