Loving This Week: a Go-To Sequin Skirt + a Haircalf Fanny Pack
Monday, October 06, 2014
This week’s shopping picks are all about texture, which seems to be the unspoken trend of this fall. I haven’t seen many glossies or shops touting texture as a “must buy,” yet stand out texture is everywhere. I adore how this uber-trend is elevating basics into something extraordinary.
This week I found everything from a seasonal go-to skirt, to splurge jeans, to the re-imagining of one of the most hated trends of the recent past. Check out what’s in my online shopping cart this week…
1. Tildon Sequin Tube Skirt, $72.00
Not only does this skirt strike me as a versatile go-to piece for the impending holiday season, it’s also available at a fabulously affordable price. Now, let’s talk about the texture… this isn’t your ordinary sequin skirt. It’s actually an abstract combination of sequins in varied sizes, which creates a very organic texture. I’ll pair it with a crisp white button-down shirt and Stuart Weitzman Nudist Sandals for a an uptown holiday party look; add a cashmere sweater and bootie pumps for a funky downtown look. It’s available in gold and black, both at this crazy-low price.
2. Chimala Denim Used Ankle Cut, $435.00
I’m a huge fan of Chimala Japanese denim. Well, as big of a fan as you can be of a brand you’ve never actually owned. I’ve been salivating over each new pair of Chimala jeans I run across, but have never actually bit the bullet and purchased a pair. They’re quite the investment. Now these new fall jeans, available in two washes, are calling my name. May have to give in on this one.
3. Wayne Brushed Wool Blade Coat, $745.00
A camel coat in a simple silhouette is a timeless wardrobe staple, but not particularly inventive. This wool blend version from Wayne is a deliciously new take on the classic thanks to a collarless shape and nubby brushed wool texture.
4. Theory Koralyn Crew Sweater, $365.00
Chunky knit sweaters are everywhere for fall, but this Theory option stands out even amongst the crowd of substantial knits in stores. The wool knit appears to be an intricate mix of criss-cross and shaker weaves. Whatever you want to call it, it’s unique and luxe looking, and perfect for fall.
5. Hare + Hart Haircalf Fanny Pack, $175.00
You know how they say that if you’re old enough to have lived through a generation-defining trend the first time around, you’re too old to wear it the second time around? Yeah, I really should probably listen to that advice. But, this new find has me thinking twice. I did live through the fanny pack heyday. And, while I wouldn’t try to relive the brightly colored nylon packs of my youth, this chic version in leather and haircalf is such a different take on the look I think I might be able to get away with it. I’m imagining wearing it with skinny jeans and over-the-knee boots on my annual winter trip to NYC.
