In my ongoing quest to find affordable minimalist clothing options in conventional places – what can I say, I like a challenge – I took a virtual stroll around French Connection.
Surprisingly, the store that brought us those obnoxious “FCUK” logo tee shirts actually delivers pretty well in the minimalist department. I found sharp pieces that will work well for occasions when a downtown-chic vibe is in order, including three pants options that range from casual, to work, to night out. Check out my finds:
1. French Connection Valentine Boxy T-Shirt, $59.99 (was $98.00)
I wish there was a better full-length photo of this tee, so you could see the front seam and v-shaped detail. But, that’s the beauty of this tee – the seams are so subtle that you’ll have to be up close to appreciate the thought that went into the design. Oh-so-minimalist, right? Bonus points for the great sale price.
2. French Connection Premium Selvedge Tomboy Jeans, $218.00
Selvedge jeans are such street style darlings right now. This deep indigo wash pair will look great with sneakers for a casual, travel-ready look or with black pumps for a look befitting a French Voguette.
3. French Connection Standard Rivet Top, $69.99 (was $118.00)
The metallic rivet detail at each shoulder keeps this blouse from being just another slouchy black jersey top. Not that there’s anything wrong with that… it’s just nice to mix it up every once in a while.
4. French Connection Coated Second Skin Leggings, $158.00
Want the look of leather leggings without the investment-level price and the less-than-cozy feel? Coated cotton denim was made for you. These leggings vibe leather from a distance, right down to the hem zippers at the ankle, but cost less than a good pair of jeans.
5. French Connection Petja Ankle Strap Flat Sandals, $130.00
It feels a little silly to feature sandals with our East Coast friends all buried in snow. But, summer will be here before we know it, and we’ll all be bummed that we missed these superbly priced metal-detail sandals.
6. French Connection Micro Check Trousers, $188.00
Take your minimalist look to the office with these wool-blend trousers. The fit is just slouchy enough to be stylish, but not so much that you’ll feel sloppy at work, and the box pleat detail has an old-school workwear feel. The “micro check” in the name refers to a very, very subtle check weave, not any kind of funky print. I too was worried, so I investigated.
