7 Chic Mall Finds You Should Be Buying Right Now
Saturday, January 27, 2018
I love the feeling of finding the perfect wardrobe addition at a reasonably priced mall store. It’s the thrill of the good deal mixed with the rush of finding the needle in the haystack – that one piece that vibes upscale, in the sea of boring basics.
Here are seven mall store finds that are on my radar right now. They’re the best of what’s new right now, and definitely worth snapping up in a hurry!
1. Drake’s for J.Crew Popover Shirt, $120.00
This piece is from J.Crew’s new collaboration with Drake’s, a London shop that’s been creating beautifully patterned scarves and ties for forty years. This pattern is a gorgeous blend of equestrian and dark floral that calls to mind Gucci. But, you know, without that Gucci price tag. The tiny pleats along the top add to the designer feel.
2. Gap Woven Stripe Boyfriend Popover Shirt, $59.95
I had a version of this subtle white-on-white stripe shirt many years ago and wore it down to nothing. I’m excited to see that Gap has resurrected this similar style, this time in a popover cut. This works with everything from business suits to destroyed denim.
3. Banana Republic Machine Washable Merino V-Neck, $68.00
Once upon the late ‘90s Banana Republic was my favorite store. I was working in education advocacy while going to school full time and their classy business separates kept me looking professional at a manageable price. Then the brand lost its way. I won’t dwell. But, this merino wool sweater, available in fourteen colors, reminds me of the old BR I loved.
4. Gap Paperbag Waist Utility Midi Skirt, $48.00 (was $59.95)
This skirt looks just like Tibi. So much so that’s it’s dangerously close to knock-off territory. But, last season’s Tibi tie-waist skirts are nearly sold out and this ultra-afforable Gap version comes in three colors. So, I’m willing to overlook.
5. J.Crew Funnelneck Striped Shirt, $68.00
Adding a funnel neck and collar buttons to a traditional striped shirt gives it an avant garde look that feels more like it belongs on the racks at Steven Alan, not J.Crew.
6. Banana Republic Satin Drawstring Hem Top, $68.00
This simple top, also available in a dark taupe color, is sure to be a closet workhorse. It can go work, weekend, or night out, depending on how it’s paired.
7. Sam Edelman Clover Block Heels, $108.00
Velvet heels feel fancy, and this quirky combination of azalea pink color and ankle strap will make a simple outfit look special. Picture them with slouchy cropped jeans and a white tee. See what I mean?
